Don't take profit, just rebalance your portfolio

Today had the chance to review portfolio with ChatGPT. It gave me reassuring questions. It correct my mindset that dividend investing should not be focusing on captial gain. Non you should sell to "take profit" when stock appreciate by 30% for example.

Instead, it told me that pricing is irrelevant in income focused investor. Volality in market isn't risk if you are planning to invest long term. The real measurement is income stability.

3 point I take away from today session:

1. You don't have to sell in market correction to capitalise on it. The less I trade the more win i have.
2. Don't sell because price appreciation. Only sell when the dividend income become weaker.
3. Don't have to sell to take profit, just rebalance it once a year and stop looking at the chart daily

The portfolio is suppose to be no stress, no volality pressure. The reciept is not selling at correct point but just let time compounding work for itself.

I lost my wallet at Atria Shopping Mall

Wallet lost

So sad, I went KL after Nha Trang to celebrate my birthday. I lost my wallet with the revolut card in it. $50 cash is gone too. I guess I had left it in one of the pant in the shopping mall. Really want to blame it on someone else but really I only have myself to blame.

In the morning, had a small quarrel in the car to Atria Shopping Mall. It is those kind of family issue and communication issue between couple. Both of us had different understanding on the same issue. If we can stop focusing on ourselve and don't take each other for granted I think all these are small matters. But maybe ego playing trick on me and business is work may also affect patience and sort. Really need to improve on the 认知的六个维度。

认知的六个维度

Also met up with Anatasia in KL to visit her. She is very power that after 打工换宿, she is able to interview and find a job when she is in Kulai. She now moves to KL to do the same in a cafe, Mingle cafe in KL. While working 4 days full time at the Architectual firm, she is doing part time 2 days to cover her rent of $150. After the part time hourly pay and minus the rent she is still able to generate some pocket money to supplement her full time income. Meanwhile she is also few hundreds of rent which she need to pay otherwise.

This is much a good solution and glad that she is able to find such a great arrangement in her first job. Furthermore she still can learn cafe operation and latte art. Great right?

Really envy artist can set up online business selling quotes hand drawn

Still posing like 傻嗨 unknowingly that I will lose my wallet on this trip.

Moomoo dividend paid out is confusing

Moomoo is so confusing and although the platform provide ease for investment and short term fund placement, they really need to work on the UX/UI where the program should simplify where people can see important information like dividend payout. I alway cannot find where did the dividend was paid out. Under more > statement > look at our starting cash and see changes if there are payout of divident in the month.

Buying sportswear as my birthday present

 Gold price of 2600

Earlier this year I am still selling jewellery gold and see if I want to buy solid gold. So that during war I can take gold bar and run away. In sep 2024, I check the price went from US$2k to US2.6k per ounce. So crazy. Little did we know that gold actually outweigh the stock performance.

Dollar is getting weaker and people are generally losing confidence with united state. The economy looks so gloomy with stagnation and recession likelihood. You know with the huge deficit and the interest payable already exceed income produced by the country. I think money will no longer be how we used to know. It might be pledged with an assets class like gold or other digital currency.

 Birthday budget 2024

Every year Jackie will give me $300 credit to buy whatsoever I like for birthday. I like it this way. I don’t like to revive things I cannot use or simply just took space in my house. So if I were to receive birthday present I like to choose things I need. I didn’t buy anything the whole year, cause I am a minimalist and anti capitalism. So today I went to Setia Alam mall to get some nice sport wear.

All our clothes will have to replace clothes from our capsules closet and will also have to fit into our 7kg travel bag requirement. Today these 2 piece I really like them a lot. Hope I will wear them often.

In between job, 2 months break

Today after watching Samurai Matcha, I got inspired to start writing my online dairy. I guess I still love my blog.

Travel

I am midway between my job. Now taking a short 2 months break. I did travel a bit after COVID reopen. In case you had missed out my Selangor Trip and Dalat Trip. The motive behind these trip is first, relax and secondly, introduce Jacky to micro retirement. From blogging for many years, I realise it is good to have records over the years so we had started both a channel on Youtube and a mini project for podcast.

Capitalism

Today I was telling Jacky about capitalism market and how they suck you in to keep purchasing things that you end up throwing out a while later. I was trying to avoid falling into all the marketing and selling technics in recent years. Take for example that, fashion industry was so saturated so capitalist designed fast fashion that promotes planned obsolescence which phrase out product in a certain life span. Fast fashion had been known to cause depletion to our earth natural resources.

Living a frugal life

  • Spend only on my needs not want, when I want to buy something I usually delay my purchase, only if I sleep over it and I had the urge I will return again to buy
  • When buying I always avoid single purpose products, there needs to be multi functions
  • Instead of buying for comfort, I buy for value. Looking for potential ways the item could ROI or be monetized in other ways

 Gig economy

Recently, we had plans to move from E to S quadrant. For the lower and non guaranteed income, we hope to exchange for anatomy, flexibility, diversified, purposeful and aligning to vision type of life. I had borrowed the book "The Gig Economy" on Kobo. This E-reader is better than kindle due to the app is able to connect to local library via overdrive to read infinite books. So far I had read 2 books. Barefoot investor and 中国历史一点通

Pinnacle notes series 9 & 10 poster misleding

They say that when they want to show you to hell, they will feed you with sweet so that you will be tempted. And when they want to show you to heaven, they will give you pain so that you can build your resistant. This is somewhat a Chinese direct translation.

Now lets take a look at this advertorial poster from the infamous pinnacle notes saga. What is the mood of the picture? How do you feel about it? Does this picture gives you a very positive feeling about it? The boy looks very cuddly and with the toy bear and toy bull in this arm... Wait! Doesn't it resemble something? Right. Isn't he trying to imply that he is both happy when the market is having a bullish or bearish market? If you like me have the good feeling about this poster, in that time we would both became the victim of the fallen investment.

This is as bad as a misrepresented poster can go. Take a look at the fine print below at point number 2 it say that the notes are not principle guaranteed. This might be the reason why we are studying M5 and M9 and almost a lot of our client nowadays question us about how much is the principle guaranteed. We cannot fault them for being too careful after this event.

Just attended the CHFC course and study on some basic knowledge on financial planning. The true financial planning and not those you find standing at roadshow selling the endowment products.

One case study points to the pinnacle notes series 9 & 10, which make a lot of investor whom invested in the Morgan Stanley to lose almost all their investment values. Only after many years of legal fighting that the investor now can recover up to 28% of the defaulted notes.
