C901 vs N82, who is better?

Today a heated competition between my favorite camera phone N82 and another skeptical 5mp shooter with Xenon, the C901. If you missed my N82 vs Zn5, please revisit the link. As I had lost my previous N82, I am using another N82 which somehow I think it didn't perform as well as my previous set. Nonetheless, for people who are interested, read on....

Macro Mode

N82 with flash, macro

N82 low light condition, macro

C901 with flash, macro

C901 low light condition, macro

I think we had a clear winner. N82 had always handled its macro mode extremely well, with or without flash. I tried playing with a lot of macro shoot with flash on, it always give me a clear and correctly exposed images. Unlike C901, after testing with a lot of macro shoot, it almost give me 100% over exposure.

* Take note that during my previous review, the zn5 auto weaken the flash when macro mode is detected. *

Document mode

C901 document mode with flash

N82 document mode with flash

C901 document without flash

N82 document without flash

As anticipated, C901 will almost give you definite overexposure when shooting >15cm with flash on.

Low Light Conditions

C901 auto, flash off

N82 auto, flash off

More or less the same except c901 appeared to be brighter

Complete darkness
You will start to appreciate Xenon flash when you are in complete darkness or extremely low light area. Led light flah can only take portrait distance. Let's see how this two camera performed in total darkness...

C901 with flash in total darkness

N82 with flash in total darkness

The two pictures were cropped to 100% to see how both camera phone handled noise level. Both almost the same, but C901 always tend to have yellow saturation in all pictures and N82 slightly blue.

* zn5 had stronger flash and can lit up further area *

Indoor shot

C901 auto, without flash

N82 auto, without flash

Another 100% crop for comparison on noise level. Without flash.

Another C901 low light flash off

Another N82 low light flash off

Night Mode

C901 night mode on

N82 night mode on

I am not a professional reviewer, hope this visual comparison helps in people who deciding which good camera phone to buy.

In my opinion,

C901

-Faster focusing time
-Always over exposure in macro mode
-Shutter shake problem (blurry images)
-Yellowish output

Click here for more c901 image example I took.

N82

-Focusing time slower than C901 but still consider fast in my opinion
-Some image stabilization, no shutter shake problem
-Very good Xenon flash, never exposure before

    @garynbc

I really dont agree with the review, apart from the 'shutter shake' problem, this will be fixed when shutter speeds are added (this will happen this year)

I dont agree whatsoever with the overexposure on macro shots, as posted i dont think you know how to use C901 or what causes the overexposure, it can easily be solved.

As explained in posts the N82 cant be modified, lucky for me the C901 camera has these functions now:
    Manaul: -
    ISO
    Focusing
    Saturation
    Sharpness

along with all the default settings...

I think the C901 is also a good looking phone, not just a camera, imo the N82 is a fat brick and very heavy despite good video/camera.

Hmm. I agree c901 is a capable camera phobe that is sleek looking.

But my personal preference will still be n82 because of its overall functionality. Personally i dont mind the bulkiness of the phone. Contrary i do prefer n82 over c901 is that the feel in hand and c901 is easily slipped out of hand.

I brought c901 at pioneer batch so the camera is such that over expose is definite on macro mode. I might not know how to utilize its function but whatever i did on n82 i did with c901. N82 natural gets an evenly spread flash. C901 overexpose.

Current patch might fix that problem. I dont know either. N82 will be the best it is, the best it was, and the best that can never will be.

Yeah the N82 will probably be the best now, but when C901 gets shutter speeds then there is no chance to beat it, but that time hasnt come yet :)

yes i agree about the C901 being slippery, its the stupid designs with the type of plastic, even though imo the phone looks good.

I would still get the C901 though, as its camera is beind developed and i can change almost everything on the phone, if you still have the C901 i can post some links for you if you want?

  11. I would be grate to see some C901 samples. I haven't had the chance to see picture from updated firmware or hack, so I would appreciate you provide me some links.

ok sure - ill see you at
    www.Esato.com
see c901 pics area in the forum :)

Goes to esato.com and find more sample pictures from C901 there. There's no one overexposured picture at macro scene.
N82 are good, but always typically nokia's, black are not black.
You should compare how both of them show into paper too. My C901 has beat bigger C905 there. Use dedicated printer to prove my words.
    Thank you.

please do a comparison between c901 and c905 there? it would be very nice to see full size picture comparison and would be a very popular topic :)

    I want something really small...

  23. Anonymous6:44 am

c901 is ok but it has more noise in pics taken with flash and they are not as sharp like those on n82,also red eye is a big problem on c901.I had a green heart, was a great phone, realy loved it but i think after a houndreds of photos ive taken with both of the phones n82 wins-and pls people we are here to comment picture quallity of the phone, not its diseighn and weight!

Changi NEWater plant opened

SINGAPORE : Singapore’s largest and most advanced water reclamation plant — the Changi Water Reclamation Plant — will open next week. The pumping station at the new Changi Water Reclamation Plant is as high as a 25—storey building. The station collects all used water from the deep sewerage tunnels via gravity. The water then undergoes a treatment process at the plant before being discharged into the sea. Part of that treated water will be processed into NEWater when the NEWater plant, which is being built on the rooftop of treatment facilities, is ready. The NEWater factory which will be operational by May next year can produce 50 million gallons of treated water daily. This is equivalent to the volume of water in 90 Olympic—sized swimming pools. PUB said the Changi Water Reclamation plant stands out in its land use. "The designers have incorporated a space saving design concept — things like stack treatment tanks and also stack treatment facilities like our sludge treatment facil

Is finnciti a scam? a layman perspective

Recently, thru a friend introduced me a platform finnciti (previously known as smicap) where you can multiple your investment in folds. The return as per quoted is up to 100% just by holding your investment on hand. I was skeptical and interested at the same time so I went online to do a little research on my own. It is not difficult to return result by just searching: "Is finnciti a scam" or "Is smicap a scam". Reviews were in mixed bag. Some mention that they earned big bucks and its a platform for normal people to get richer while some other point out some resemblance of a scam structure and therefore classified finnciti as a scam platform. I am a layman using basic logic to analyst the concept and by no mean I am advising to invest or against it. But in my humble opinion, ALL INVESTMENT POSSESSES RISK AND PLEASE BE PRUDENT WHEN DOING ANY KINDS INVESTMENT AND ONLY INVEST IN YOUR MONEY THAT YOU CAN BEAR LOSING .
